It’s beginning to appear that Obama is going down in history as the most divisive president in the history of the United States. I don’t remember reading where any other president has ever garnered so much in the way of political upheaval — not even George W!
Maybe it’s just that he’s a Democrat and I’m hearing more loud voices from the right, but I do know that his plan for America doesn’t seem to fit well with what I perceive to be what the majority of Americans want.
Yes, he’s forced a health care bill through Congress that is going to change health care. The jury is still out on whether it’s going to change it in a good way or in a bad way.
It seems to me though that with the economy the way it is, first priority should have been on job creation. Not stimulus packages — but rather doing those things that have been proven (time and time again!) to stimulate the economy. He knows what those things are. While they seem to be things that align with the Republican party, that should not be a valid reason for not employing those tried-and-true methods of creating jobs, personal wealth and national prosperity.
I’m getting lots of emails in my mailbox that talk about him doing this or that and those actions prove he is not a Christian or that he’s not a Patriot. My personal code of ethics is founded on the Golden Rule – Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You…it’s a simple rule — those 10 words make it pretty easy to determine if I’m doing right or wrong. And I didn’t have to invoke God, Christ, Mohammad, Buddha or any of the other deities..even agnostics can easily understand and follow that rule without breaking their “faith”. Why can’t that be the rule to follow? That one single rule. So simple. So complete. Covers everything from soup to nuts.
I want my children and grandchildren (and hopefully one day great and great-great!) to grow up in the kind of America I did. The kind of America where hard work, ingenuity, talent and personal accountability were the standards by which we advanced in the world. I want them to reach for the stars while having solid ground under their feet.
We certainly have strayed away from those things in recent years. I don’t know exactly when it started or who started it, but it’s time we recognized that we are on the wrong path. We need a shepherd to get us back on the right one. We need Hollywood to start making more movies about people doing good or creative things instead of sensationalizing when they do bad or destructive things.
It’s up to Americans to choose the leaders who will steer us back on the path of good. Choose wisely America. Your children and children’s children are counting on you.
