Michael Vick the former Atlanta Falcons star football player is out of jail having served all but two months of his 23 months sentence. The last two months of his sentence will be served in home confinement in Virginia.

But in order for Michael to go back to his lucrative job of playing football, per the NFL’s ruling, he has to show remorse and do restitution for his crime.

So, he’s teaming up with the Humane Society of the US on anti-dog fighting campaigns according to HSUS President, Wayne Pacella.

To me, this seems a match made in heaven.

A man convicted of dog fighting and animal abuse working for an organization that, despite it’s name, does nothing whatsoever in the active work of saving animals. Puhleezzz!

Rather, HSUS is going to bank on Vick’s name to lure unsuspecting people into donating money to their animal rights agendas which, incidentally, work towards removing YOUR rights to own a pet.

Less than 24 hours after Vick was arrested on dog fighting charges, the HSUS was raising money on the promise that it would go to help rehabilitate Michael’s remaining dogs. But the New York Times reported that the group had absolutely NOTHING to do with caring for animals and in fact does not operate any shelters nor does it contribute to the operation of any shelters in the US.

Pacelle told the Times that he had no idea who had the dogs or where they were and urged them to all be destroyed.

Vick was ordered to pay $1 million dollars for the rehabilitation of the dogs who are now in a shelter in Utah which has worked to do just that. Despite the calls from PETA and HSUS to destroy them, several of the dogs have been rehabilitated and placed while others will live out their lives at the shelter.

So, can we see by a show of hands how many of you REALLY believe Mike is reformed?

Yeah – I thought so…

I think it might be very hard for him to get back to his old form. I’d be surprised if I saw him in the field in the next couple months.

Diety — just looking at his photo shows that he’s kept in shape while in prison. It would have been in his best interests to do so. I think he probably could be in the field by the start of the football season with some intensive training which I’m sure he’ll get.

In a word…NO. Doing one good thing, does that erase the previous acts? NO

You’re right they’re banking on his name to get $$$, however I don’t see how they’re keeping anyone from owning a pet, cause if they are I’ve got a list of people I’d like to send them. Most of my neighbors who have dogs who think they’re possessions, no…they’re not gruel to them; but they do nothing with or for them which is why they bark all day and night and annoy the H out of the rest of us. Take them for walks, if you’re gone during the day all day, don’t get a dog. Put them in a cage and leave…so they can bark all day…oh yea, my favorite, get a 2nd or 3rd dog to keep the first one company, so they all can be in cages all day inside and bark to keep each other company…stupid people

Sandy — HSUS and PETA spend millions of dollars every year trying to get stricter and stricter legislation into local governments regarding pet ownership. If they had their fondest wish granted, it would be that owning an animal — ANY animal was against the law and that includes farms, too!

I agree 100% that people who have an animal just to tie it up in the yard or keep it crated 10-12 hours a day don’t need to own that particular kind of pet, but I don’t think we need legislation to stop it. We need to educate them in what is needed to keep that pet properly and to provide them with other alternatives to managing their pets.
