Democrats versus Republicans

At the start of this election season, like many others, I was (and still am) fed up with what the incumbent Republicans have achieved while in office. I was to the point of voting for any Democrat as long as he or she wasn’t so far left of center I couldn’t see them in my peripheral vision.

I had things that concerned me — Iraq (want the troops home, but not at the price of the economy — ours OR Iraq’s), illegal immigrants (don’t want them in jail, but don’t want them roaming my streets, either), stem cell research (for it). In the meantime, the economy has tanked thanks to certain greedy and unscrupulous individuals and corporations and banks and financial institutions (all of whom should have known better and who should have listened to the advisors who were saying "this balloon is going to come down, you know").

Individual health insurance was NOT on my list of things to be concerned over. I know — makes me out to be a self-centered jerk when I’m not really. But you see, I’ve never been without health insurance. I’ve worked since I was 14 years old (and I’m getting really close to that magic "R" age = "baby boomer") with just a few short lapses and those occurred while I was covered by my husband’s plan, so I had no lapse in coverage.

I’m really proud of my work record and my work ethic.

I’m appalled by the ever growing numbers of people who think (or act as if they think) they are entitled to a living without putting forth any effort for it. It’s long been my belief that people who are given their food, lodging and "comforts" are the most dissatisfied and the most likely to cause trouble in our society — they are bored and have no purpose in life, so making trouble is all that’s left. The adage "idle hands make the devil’s work" is so applicable.  I’ve never been "for" welfare. Oh, yes, I know it helps people who need help, but I see it as a crutch and I would rather give those people college educations so they can get jobs that will earn the money they need to support their families and themselves.

So now, both the Democratic contenders are pushing health insurance for all. I just don’t know if I can stomach that enough to vote for one of them. GIVE THESE PEOPLE JOBS SO THEY CAN GET THEIR OWN INSURANCE for crying out loud. Work on lowering health costs – the health industry is in need of scrutiny over their billing practices. I think the last time I was in the hospital, a Band-Aid was $8. There are multiple points at which this issue can be addressed without having mandatory health insurance.

This message is mine….and I endorse it.
