Welcome
I'll never stop asking questions and wondering who, what, when where and why. I'm always trying to get the answers. I'll share them with you.

Come my friend let’s sit awhile
We’ll share a joke; We’ll share a smile
And before our visit is marked through
We’ll share what’s new with me; what’s new with you.

What is it with people any more? I just read over at Carl Galloway’s blog about the increasing problem with people leaving their dog’s feces on public sidewalks and greenways in Ronda, Spain. ICK! I hope they fine every one of the inconsiderate doofuses that 500 EU! They deserve it!

I have dogs and walk them in such places, but NEVER would I consider leaving behind their poo for someone to inadvertently step in! That’s just so inconsiderate! It’s no big deal to carry a plastic bag or two with you to pick up after your dog. It’s real easy to turn it inside out over your hand, pick up the pile all nice and sterile and then pull the bag back right side out, tie the top and chuck it in the waste bin. Keeps the smell down, too.

And this also brings up other rude behaviors I’ve noticed of late.

Public restrooms — people, it’s a place we all should be able to go into without finding toilet paper on the floor, toilets left unflushed and water all over the counter around the sink. No one is in such a hurry that they cannot take 30 seconds to wait for the toilet to finish flushing to make sure it all went down with the first flush. Water pressure varies in places, and sometimes despite low volume of paper or stool in the bowl it takes more than one flush to get it down. Oh — and if you’re one of those who squats over the seat, please “if you sprinkle when you tinkle, please be neat and wipe the seat” as my Mama taught me!

Water left pooling on the counters around the sink is another pet peeve of mine. I don’t particularly care to lean up against that counter and come away with a wet shirt. Being short, I’m not often given the option of holding myself away from the counter as I wash my hands, so when you’re through drying your hands on your paper towels, use them to mop up the sink area. Just as a consideration for those following after you.

It seems like people act like pieces of tv furniture — stuck in a corner with real life going on somewhere over their heads on a big screen. Wake up people! You are not islands in a sea of humanity! We are all citizens of the world; let’s try to make it a better place starting with those places we all congregate. I’m not saying you have to be Sterile Sue, but just have some consideration for the next person who comes along. Remember the Golden Rule (that would be “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” — just in case you forgot or were never taught it)?

If you’re grossed out by these things (and if you’re one who isn’t then I hope our paths never cross!), then don’t perpetuate the problem by ignoring common courtesy.

Thank you and good night!

Yeah, I hate it when people leave dog poop around, too. The dog trials are so nice, people clean up so well! It’s the few that ruin it for the rest of us. And even a few poops can seem like a lot.

Hey looks like you got rid of SezWho? Too slow?

Your posts are usually very entertaining for me, but this one is gross because it does actually happen everywhere and people really should show more consideration for others. I wonder what their houses look like?

@Cynthia — at one of our Nationals, they had a contest to see who could collect the most poo. They had a scale where they weighed the baggies and someone won $100 — it was too funny, but that was by far THE cleanest show grounds I’ve ever been on

@Jude — I have a feeling their HOUSES are clean and tidy, it’s their consideration for strangers they leave in their back pockets. Yeah, this really wasn’t a funny post — I’m pretty icked out by all of these things and more.

People are getting more lazy, selfish and inconsiderate everywhere… They’d step on a poop left by others. I bet they will be less likely to leave feces behind.

Heyas Margaret. I loath some of the dog-owners in my area. I walk every day with my daugher in a roller, and everyday on particular places I have to watch out. Sometimes I don’t look out and when I take the roller inside the house I sometimes notice I’ve hit some. Too late.

I’d like to take DNA sample from it and find the right dog. After I find the owner I dream of rescuing the dog from this stupid owner, reporting abuse or something. Poor dogs having owners like this.

A few times I’ve caught some in the act, when they just walk from it without putting it in bag. I’ve stopped them and told them to pick it up. Last time he said he forgot the bags. I had a plastic bag he could have and I stood next to him until he picked it up.

I wanted to say “Next time I catch you I will poo on your stairs” but I didn’t dare.

I have a pet peeve too, though it probably won’t be common to a lot of people. I drive a bus (public transportation) and people are supposed to wait at certain areas to be picked up. Best example: the person wants to be picked up at Wal Mart at 2PM and they see the bus way out in the parking lot (which is where the drivers take their breaks). Do they wait at the designated spot? No. They traipse all the way across the lot and expect the driver, whose lunch break they have just so rudely interrupted, to cheerfully open the door and let them board the bus twenty minutes early. Oh, and that driver is supposed to engage in cheerful conversation centered on said rude customer.

    Hi Margaret

Looks like you have touched on a few issues that annoy us on a daily basis. People do seem to be less conciderate of others these days, is it the fast pace of life? or just bad upbringing and a don’t care attitude? Whatever the reason it is annoying to have to put up with it. I ask myself the question and that is “if they are like this in public what must their homes look like?”

  8. Good manners are important! I ALWAYS cover after I use the litter box. It is the polite thing to do!

Our pet peeve is when people throw trash right out their car windows!

  9. Common courtesy is not so common. You can see it in restrooms, on the road, in people’s yards, on sidewalks, etc. etc. It drives me crazy sometimes, but it also makes me wonder what I do sometimes that drives other people crazy.

BTW- another reason that people should not leave dog poo on the ground: rats. Yup, rats will eat it, and we all know what rats do. SPREAD THE PLAGUE. :)

It’s less about my shoes and more about general public health. Though I’m as mad as anyone else when it gets on my shoe… ;)

    Namaste,

@Cindy — Isn’t there anywhere else the driver could take their break that would be out of sight of the stop? I know that if I had just spent 2 hours shopping in Wal-Mart, and had to wait outside with my packages on a hot or rainy day, saw the bus sitting idle across the lot that I would probably schlep across to the waiting bus, too. I would probably assume the driver was waiting for the scheduled time to pull up to the stop but not want to sit in the spot blocking traffic while it waited, not that the driver was taking a scheduled break or lunch.

@Caroline — yes, there are tons more, but these particular ones not only are personal peeves, but are health hazards as well. I’m sure if asked, the perpetrators of such inconsiderateness would cite not thinking about the next person to come along. I don’t think we’re brought up to be sloppy, but I do believe there is way more emphasis put on self gratification than self sacrifice these days.

@Daisy – you are a very good kitty! Perhaps your mommie could teach you how to potty in the toilet and thereby eliminate your litter box entirely — that would save the planet as well as be more hygenic. I have seen videos of kitties who do this and who even flush afterwards. You’re such a smart kitty that I’m positive you could learn this.

@Namaste You’re right — it’s not COMMON any more — as I stated above, I believe its because we put more emphasis on teaching our children how to achieve self gratification and not how to give self sacrifice. There are a multitude of reasons to not leave feces in public places not just aesthetic ones either! Even other dogs will eat feces that have been left behind by another, not just rats, and there’s probably a far greater danger of such diseases as rabies, distemper, parvovirus and others than from plague (which is actually transmitted by fleas that are on the animals)
