Today’s America sees jobs in fields as far-flung as food service and farming, brain surgeon and migrant worker. All these jobs need bodies to fill them. Despite the dismal unemployment figures and their trend upwards of late, there are jobs out there for everyone. Even the non-scholar.
Greenville Technical College has worked towards having a curriculum offered in many different areas that would help the non-scholar to find gainful employment. They offer courses in pet grooming, veterinary technician, HVAC, landscaping and medical transcription. Across the street from the college there’s even one of those massage therapy schools along with a beauty school.
Although you do need a high school diploma or GED in order to enroll in one of these vocational schools, the courses are thorough and the training you receive is excellent. The college also has counselors who help you find employment in your chosen field after graduation.
Having some education shows your potential employer that you take pride in your chosen career and want to do a good job at it. Many employers choose a prospective employee who has this training over one who doesn’t or even one with experience through another firm. Often the wage offered to someone with training is more than is offered to someone without training.
In searching out jobs through the internet, there still seems to be a large need for service related workers. Health care workers are also in big demand.
When I retire from my present job, I may not be ready to stop working. Attending one of these schools would give me some skills in another field that I might be able to do into retirement.
Have you ever thought about working in a skilled position? Would you attend this school if it were in your town?
