This weekend we celebrate those brave and trueOld Glory
Men and women who’ve served the red white and blue
We honor their bravery with parades and flowers
We honor the memory of their finest hours

They are our sisters and brothers
Uncles, Fathers, and Mothers
Aunts, Nephews, and Nieces
And many, many others

Through war and peace they have served us well
Keeping us safe from some unknown hell
Yet we repay them so little, it’s truly quite small
When often, too often, they’ve sacrificed all.

So often we pin on them medals of brass
In a ceremony that in an hour will pass
Then into oblivion we allow them to go
And only remember at their funeral show.

It’s time, long past time to honor the living
Healthy minds and bodies are what we should be giving
A good education, a pension and more
For where would we be when once again we’re at war?

Without these brave and true men and women
Who with their pledge and their lives freely given
Without these fine people just where would we be?
Probably not in Land of the Free!
