I Love Analogies!

I just love analogies. People who can write a good analogy are so effective at getting their point across.

I came across an article this morning at Making Money Online With Articles likening good articles to chunky peanut butter. What a great analogy! And it’s so accurate, too! You do want to separate your thoughts into short, succinct sentences. And include text formatting where appropriate so as to give some visual zing to your article. It helps people focus on your content to have bolded or underlined words. Instead of skimming, they’ll read the whole sentence.

This website lists some amusing analogies written by students in a teacher’s class. Many of them are quite interesting concepts! They make me very aware of the creative minds of young people.

Wikipedia’s definition of analogy is so dry and completely without analogy anywhere on the page. I think that’s rather odd. What better way to illustrate the concept than with an analogy!?!  It’s almost as if the contributing authors felt it would be too much of a cliche to use an analogy when defining analogy.

Analogies give zing to your writing. Just like those kids captured MY imagination, a good analogy is going to capture your attention and keep it through your article.

So,  grow on your readers like you’re a colony of E. Coli, and they’re room-temperature Canadian beef. Don’t let your mind be like Grandpas, who had a mind like a steel trap, only one that had been left out so long it had rusted shut. Hopefully, your analogy won’t be hitting the pavement like a Hefty bag filled with vegetable soup.

Love your analogies, especially the rusty steel trap!

I’ve just been to read the Making Money Online article, and it is very good. I must try harder.

I would caution, though, on overdoing it, especially bold, colour and underlining. I have recently had to work with someone who never writes an email without all these things, plus three or more colours. It’s exhausting! I swear he must be colour-blind.

I had to comment on a good blog such as this. I saw that you requested advertisement through entre card on my blog. I was skeptical that I would approve you, just based on the title. But I give everyone who requests advertisement at least a drop, so I had to come see for myself. You’ve got a lot of good information that beginning Internet Marketers will find valuable. I will not only grant you the ad, but I will be placing you in my favorites list as well. I need to check back here as often as possible, I am a newbie in internet marketing myself, and I need all the help and real info I can get.

By the way, if you have the time, please visit my blog. I only have three posts there, but I want to get some feedback before I continue. Please look over my blog and leave a message with some improvements and resource urls. It would be greatly appreciated

    Sincerely

    Kenya S.

I am worried that if I do not write entertaining posts, then I could lose readers like a lizard loses it’s tail! I think that is a good analogy, because if the lizard tries real hard, then the tail can grow back.

A — thanks for the advice — I do try not to overdo especially the colours part — you knock my head if I cross the line, OK?

Kenya — thanks for the compliment! My best advice to you is to buy your own domain name and get off blogger (left a comment to that effect, too).

Kim — not to worry! We are going to have a whole lotta fun in Vegas — it’s 13 days and counting down!

    Hi’

    My site contains analogies.
    Have a look.

I liked ur site and will visit it as often as possible.
    Because I love to spy.

    regards,
    Rajan.

  7. Analogies enhance our messages, I might say. Phrases like “as fragile as a snowflake” make communication easier.

You have a wonderful blog. Keep on posting!

  9. I found you through your ad submission on Entrecard, and I am really glad I did – I love the look of the site, and this entry in particular I enjoyed (I try to use analogies often on my sites. Sometimes it becomes a bit of a stretch, but you gotta’ have fun with it :) )

Definitely adding you to my list of favorites.

    Thanks for the drop!
