Come my friend let’s sit awhile
We’ll share a joke; We’ll share a smile
And before our visit is marked through
We’ll share what’s new with me; what’s new with you.
Classical Music Memories

I was listening to NPR radio on my way home from an SSIG meeting tonight when they started playing the Hungarian Dance No. 6 by Brahms. It suddenly occurred to me that this was a very familiar tune, but took a few more minutes to remember exactly where I had heard it.
Elmer Fudd was hunting Bugs Bunny wearing that hat with the ear flaps and carrying that shotgun when Bugs broke into the dance — which upon reflection appeared more Russian than Hungarian, but it was a cartoon and I was about 6, so who’s complaining.
Those Warner Brothers cartoons are where I got my first introduction to classical music. To jog your memory of what it sounds like, here’s a clip from YouTube of the Checchetto Ensemble playing it.
What an insidious idea! To warp young minds with such! It’s almost as bad as making them want all those junky toys that are molded after the cartoon characters!
