Today was just one of those days.
Well, let me back up because it started last night.
You remember how I promised I would have some posts all ready to come up over the weekend while I was away? Uh huh….well, as I was in the middle of thinking about suitable subjects for them (and clicking entrecards and shopping for clothes), my browser started throwing up all these page not founds.
What the heck is going on! If the ISP is screwing with my DSL, I’m gonna be p.o.-ed!
I look at my modem and only the ethernet and power lights are on. No DSL and no activity (duh). So I head out to the living room where the box is that the lines are plugged into. Don’t ask me why that was the FIRST thing I did — mother’s intuition I suppose. At any rate, I find the phone line for the modem is chewed in two. Right at the plug, too.
Well that put a merkin in the middle. (HA! Ken A — there! I used your word! Ok Ok, so it’s not with the correct meaning, but the alliteration man, the alliteration!! PERFECT!)
There begins the hunt for the electricians kit that I know Ken has somewhere in the house, out in the garage, in the camper, in the truck…..nowhere! ARGH!
So, what does any self respecting woman do when faced with such??
Right — chocolate. Thank goodness there was some in the house, otherwise someone would have died and it wouldn’t have been me.
Since there’s nothing else to do when I eat all the chocolate, I go to bed.
Only……I can’t sleep dammit.….I’m on a sugar high like no other and so I lie in bed and twitch.
Then once I finally drift off, I’m rudely awakened by the phone-cord-chewing miscreant herself wanting to be let in the bedroom for a cuddle.
Knowing there will be no peace if I don’t, I let her in, then lie there twitching some more while SHE falls right off to dreamland and her twitches are purely those produced by doggy dreams.
When Ken’s (my husband, Ken. Not the cute Irish guy of merkin fame) alarm goes off at 3:45, I get up with him and ask if he knows where the electrical toolkit is. He doesn’t but finds it –on the mantle. (Who the HE!! puts a toolbox on the MANTLE????? Oh! Never mind — just Ken!). So then we’re trying to strip these little tiny wires and twist them together — unh uh — ain’t gonna work.
So I give up and make the drive into work.
I figure my IT guy probably has some ends and one of those crimping tools that I can borrow.
He has the tool all right, but no ends, so when I get off work, I begin the search for ends. I could just buy cable and re-run the line, but that means someone has to crawl under the house — it’ll be dark and it’s been raining all day, so I can readily imagine how much fun that would be. mmmmmmmmmm NOT
No, just putting a new end on the wire will be all it needs. There’s no need to consort with the spiders tonight.
I try Wal-Mart, Best Buy and finally find the dratted Radio Shack where I wanted to go first, but couldn’t find the store (the others all came before it). Just to be on the safe side, I had purchased a new cable in Wal-Mart, but thankfully, Radio Shack had the ends. Of course the package of 10 ends cost nearly as much as 50′ of phone cord complete with TWO ends cost, but who’s counting??? It’s ONLY money, right?? And with the way my 401K has gone lately, you KNOW I’ve got tons of it……..yeah……right….and the pope wears pink underwear.
I got home around 6:00pm (I’m usually home by 5), crimped the end on and WAHOOO!!! We’re back on the Internet!
Of course there’s STUFF to do before I can begin writing posts (and other computer stuff)…feed dogs, feed birds, clean kennels, clean bird cages, do dishes, cook supper, make a couple of phone calls…. you get the picture. Just call me super — as in SuperWoman you dolt!
So, it’s now 9 pm. We just finished eating dinner and after getting next to no sleep last night, staying up much later to write the promised posts is probably not going to happen.
Now, if I wake up in the morning before Ken, I may be able to dash off one or two before he wants to get going, but I’m not going to make any promises at this point.
I hope you guys will forgive my silence.
Heck — don’t forgive me, but at least miss me! A little?? Tiny.…..bit………………………….please??

Wow! The news and your day were definitely hectic. I won’t be mad at you for the silence. Just make sure you get some rest after that mess.

Wow! You are super woman. I wouldn’t know how to fix a cord - I’d have just gotten the new one.
How many birds? I have one bird. And two dogs. (That’s plenty.)

Shucks, a weekend without a good giggle, what are you doing to us?
You deserve a break after all these adventures as super woman.

There was I surfing for Merkin sites (as I often do) and whos page should I find? Small world indeed.
(Joke, it’s a joke - I don’t surf merkins - well… hardly ever)

Superwoman, you are forgiven AND missed!
But I wonder how are you going to prevent the “phone-cord-chewing miscreant” from doing that again? We can’t have you running all over town, or considering crawling under houses or searching for electrical toolkits on a regular basis if that’s going to interfere with your blog posting!
