I am heartily SICK of spam! I just looked at my spam folder — granted I haven’t cleaned it out in a week, but JEEZUS I have 7,930 spam emails! Thank goodness for Cloudmark Desktop as I don’t have to even see most of those in my inbox. I just have to take out the trash periodically.
I get spam for everything from Viagra/Cialis to diet pills to Tide detergent for crying out loud! Prescription drugs from Canada, win an IPod, an IPhone, an AirBook or a gift card to Walmart, Target, KMart or VISA. Some guy named Shawn can’t believe he’s giving “all this” away! Other people are begging me to email them about millions of dollars or pounds sterling I’ve won in a lottery or someone I’ve never heard of before has bequeathed me.
it’s time to empty the trash!

I used to be a computer consultant- when we put up email gateways for businesses it wasn’t uncommon for us to drop the number of messages they received by 98-99%. What kills me is these parasites wouldn’t exist if there weren’t people out there who said, “Yeah, I need me some of that there Viagra without a prescription”…. I have to go, I have to send out an email to 10 or my computer will turn into a lump of Jello.

I recently had to set up the spam filters on our new system at work, helped by the young man who first installed the system. He couldn’t bring himself to say any of the words to a respectable older woman like myself
I’m afraid I teased him unmercifully and pretended I didn’t know what words to use. He got his own back though, when he had to go back when there was a problem, and of course professed shock and horror at what I was filtering out.
It’s actually remarkably difficult because there are so many ordinary words that have taken on secondary meanings.
