Nikki
We have a new Whippet puppy. Her name is Nikki and she’s a pretty little thing.
But, pretty looks don’t hide for long the true nature of a Whippet puppy on a mission.
Ms. Nikki is 5 months old and is getting in some new teeth. This makes her want to chew like mad and nothing, I mean NOTHING is off limits to that mouth!
I have watched Greatest American Dog nearly every week as they whittle down the teams. Last night was to be the final night when they chose the Greatest American Dog. Ken and I had bets on who was going to make it. We were pretty sure that JD and Galaxy were going to get voted off as it’s been long apparent that the judges, primarily Victoria Stilwell, just don’t like JD’s cocky attitude, his overbearing training methods and his general attitude towards the them, although they love Galaxy herself. He hasn’t endeared himself to me either if you want to know the truth.
Anyway, we went to turn on the t.v. and no picture! This was horrible! The t.v. is a fairly new plasma set and we could not figure out just what was going on until we started looking at the cabling going to the set from the satellite box — apparently the Cat5e patch cable was extra tasty because it was in several pieces. Thankfully I scrounged up a spare and we were able to watch the program although we came into it a few minutes late.
I was totally surprised by who won.
I had pegged Laurie and Andrew as the eventual winners because of Wendy Diamond’s obvious bias towards them. Andrew is a cute dog and very well trained. It was apparent all along that they have a very tight relationship but one that the judges construed as being separation anxiety on Andrew’s part. I was pretty sure that Travis and Presley would be the ones voted off as Presley is such a young dog and Travis such an inexperienced trainer, but I was proved wrong as they came in the $250,000 winners last night.
I don’t know what I’ll do with my Wednesday evenings now that GAD is finished. T.V. is not exactly my thing, so I guess I will use that time to blog.
Do y’all have any other suggestions?

I have been watching too.. only to say I have an educated opinion about the show. NOT liking it. I don’t think there’s anything good about teaching a dog to jump off a cliff.
Besides that, i didn’t think Andrew would win. He’s too much of a mama’s boy and they didn’t like that. Plus, he’s a small dog, and I think small dogs get a bad rap.
Presley did do a good job of improving over the course of the show. He’s got a lot of potential. Even though I’m not really a boxer person. His Dad was kinda cool too, I liked how he watched other people and picked up their training methods.
Either way… I know many dogs that are a lot more talented and better trained than those dogs. I would not call Presley the Greatest American Dog by any means!

We have puppy before and all of us was on pain when she left on unacceptable reason: jealousy to some people. She serve vice versa for over 10 years. I wish if she still alive i let her watch the Greatest American Dog she would definitely love it!:)
have a great day!:)

Well, I enjoyed the show and watched it while keeping in mind that it was more of an obedience/obstacle challenge than anything else.
Personally, I think a great dog should be one that can do all the things these dogs did but also does something for his community. Such as a companion dog, bomb sniffer, drug finder, even a cadaver dog. There are many things dogs do every day to enrich or improve our lives that we more or less take for granted.
But I have been watching 9/11 programs today and seeing the rescue dogs working that disaster has them very much on my mind. After all these years, I still cry when I see all this footage.
USA!!!

Oh, come on, Cynthia! This is a truly wholesome reality show, for a change! One the entire family can watch together, and it promotes kindness towards animals. I have a dog and I learned a lot from watching the various owners deal with training their dogs for the different challenges. Also, I enjoyed hearing the three judges discuss (argue) their different points of view regarding the best way to train a pet.
As to which dog should have won, I was satisfied with Presley. He may not be the “greatest” dog in America but he certainly represents what a great dog is. I, personally, was rooting for Andrew and Laurie, maybe because I also have a small dog and I love seeing these little fellows demonstrate such amazing courage and determination that you would never expect of an animal their size.
I will continue to be a big fan of GAD and I hope it continues for years!

We’re so taken with your Nikki - so adorable! Mom always said if she had dogs, she’d get either a whippet or greyhound.

It was a fun show, I was hoping for a tie at the end, they both were great dogs! Nikki is very cute!

My suggestion for your Wednesday is take that cute puppy on a nice, long, leisurely walk, just the two of you, exhaust him so that when he gets home he’s too pooped to chew on anything:)

Oh, Nikki is so pretty! And boy do I empathize with the chewing. We have a 3.5 mos old italian greyhound girly who knows just how to work those little (razor sharp) eye teeth - yeowch! Love my whippet girl (she’s 9), but I really like the size of the igs.
Not much of a tv watcher.. no suggestions.
