New Friends for Kemar

A couple of weeks ago we got two puppies to add to the menagerie at our house. They are Toy Fox Terrier puppies.
I am here to tell you, these guys are SMART! They just turned 4 months old and already they use the doggie door to go outside with the big dogs. They are not a bit afraid of the bigger dogs, either!
Like all babies, though, we tend to spoil them rotten. They have a huge plush dog bed that I bought from the pet beds lady on E-bay. It’s like a donut bed but has this plump center pillow thingy that they just wallow all over. They bury thier toys underneath it and sometimes I’ll even see one of them burrowed under it sound asleep.
Of course it’s not often I see them asleep — they are little perpetual motion machines.
I wish I had discovered this breed years ago. If these two are any example, they are the neatest little breed of dog! Little enough to carry in your pocket, but with a big dog attitude, they are smart, clean (which many toy breeds are not) and very willing to please their owners. I’m hoping that along with showing them in conformation that I can also do obedience and Rally-O with them.
We have already started their training — just fun stuff using clicker training (like I use with the birds) and lots of treats — they like the “lots of treats” part especially well
I had fun naming them, too. The girl is Wesann No Bigger ‘N A Minute and the boy is Wesann It Only Takes A Minute or Minnie and Max.
Be prepared — you’re going to be seeing a lot more about them in the months to come.
Do you like big dogs or little dogs?
I used to find myself always drawn to males, but this little girl has stolen my heart. Do you find that you are drawn more to one sex of an animal than to another?

Love those fox terriers! We’ve got a miniature rat terrier at my place that does wonders on keeping the snake population down (we live near the nSaline River). I’m curious — I suspect that fox terriers aren’t calmer than rat terriers as both breeds have a lot in common. Is that true?
From your description, I suspect fox terriers are as revved up as the rats are. Mine, too, is fearless and too smart for his own good.
We just love dogs over here. In addition to the 16-pound rat terrier, we’ve got a three-legged (birth defect — she gets around just fine) dachshund/lab mix (solid black) and a 120-pound boxer/St. Bernard mix. Quite a combination.
