I drove to Maryville yesterday to see Mama. It’s been about two months since I last made the drive. We talk every week on the phone and until recently, we emailed almost daily, but she’s had some issues with Juno lately and decided to stop using it.
Despite calling for support, she just could not get their software to work for longer than a few days at a time without un-installing and re-installing their software which is a task that at 87 is challenging to her. Part of the problem was that the people manning the help desk were non-English speakers and she just could not understand them.
Her friend told her about the company he’s using for his Internet — Turbo USA, so I got her set up with them, set up her email and downloaded the dialer software onto my jump drive, then drove up yesterday to get the rest of it installed on her computer.
I was immediately struck by how much thinner she looked! I knew she hadn’t taken any diet pills to get that way, but also knew she’s been walking every day. I just hadn’t realized how much of a difference that walking would make! I’m really proud of her determination as she’s got osteoporosis and her spine has compressed from it, so she’s in constant pain from that and arthritis. She can’t walk fast, but she’s WALKING.
We had a nice chat while I worked on her computer. I un-installed Juno, installed the Turbo USA dialer, then we logged in and she read her emails (I had sent one to everyone in her address book the night before telling them about her move) and went through how to use the program. She may not remember it all this morning, but hopefully it’s not too different from Juno that she won’t pick it up pretty quickly.
I got back home in time to fix supper and fall in bed. I was TIRED! So, if you didn’t hear from me yesterday, now you know why.

It is really nice that you visit your Mama regularly anfd help her out. I am the same with my Mum and although she lives 200 miles away I regularly visit and help her with things as she is 83.
