Handy Gadgets

There are some gadgets that just have to be the handiest things around!

One is that rubber circle for helping you open jars with. I don’t know how I managed before I owned one of those things! I don’t have the strongest grip to begin with and Ken has trouble too since his carpal tunnel surgery 8 years ago, so opening jars was pretty difficult. I tried the running hot water over the lid, etc but the rubber circle works the best of all.

Another little but well-used gadget are the carabiniers that used to only be used by mountain climbers. I use them for many different things now (presently a cute plastic one with a flashlight in it is holding my car keys on my purse). They are handy for hanging toys for the birds, keeping otherwise loose things together — keys for example which can be threaded on one of those rings, but I end up tearing up my fingernails trying to do that, so the carabinier is perfect for keys! Clipping buckets to the side of the dog crates, x-pens or whatever is another task that’s perfect for a carabinier.

On a more technological level is my little red flash drive.  While it’s a small one — 1GB — it’s so handy for transferring files! I moved my entire hard drive from one computer to the laptop not too long ago with this little tiny gem! The last time I used it, I moved some videos from my computer to Ken’s because he can’t seem to see UTube videos now (I haven’t figured that one out yet!). For something that’s right around $20, this has been a wonderful gadget to have in my purse!

While I don’t have one, those I-Pod shuffles or nanos look like they are useful gadgets. I used to have an I-Pod, but hardly ever used it, so don’t know if I would use one of these either — well maybe as I worked out but that might be the only time.

What’s your favorite or most useful gadget?

I’m not sure if this counts as a gadget, but my favorite “gadget” is the hearing protection / headphones that I plug my ipod into so that I can listen to podcasts or music while I’m doing my two least favorite, very loud chores - vacuuming and mowing the lawn. The hearing protection with the ipod jack lets me be in my “own little world”. :-)

You just reminded me that I needed to buy myself a flash drive! Thank you. My other one got lost and transferring things from the comp to the laptop has become annoying without it.

If I had an i-Pod, I think that would be my favorite gadget. I love to listen to music whenever I can and that would make it possible for me to do so.

@Carole — that sounds like a very useful add-on to your headphones!

@Monique — I guess I’m rude as I have a radio set very low here in my cube. Most of my neighbors seem to like my choice of radio station (NPR), so I’m not driving anyone totally batty with it, but it probably would be more polite if I would use an MP3 player or I-Pod device — I just like hearing the news reports and other features that NPR has along with the music.
