We normally take a long vacation about once every 5 years (coinciding with significant wedding anniversaries), so it’s pretty safe to say our next big one will be in 2013 and who knows where we’ll go then. I foresee us having significantly fewer dogs by then although I’m pretty sure the bird population will be about the same, so we’ll still need a pet sitter for the week.
Our next vacations will be once again to different dog shows around the Southeast.
Actually, our next one is in just two weeks in Charlotte, NC. That’s one where we’ll take our camper and set up on site, but there are some shows where taking the camper just isn’t practical.
A Hilton Head rental that will accept dogs will be necessary for the Hilton Head, SC shows. The site for this show is small and there are no hook-ups available and not much space for RVs or trailers and what is there is muddy and full of sand spurs. We’ve actually been skipping this show the last several years, but the judging panel this time is one we don’t want to miss, so will be making the extra effort required to have some place to stay that’s convenient to the show site.
Fortunately, there are very few such shows and more and more of them are in sites where hook-ups are available. That saves us a significant amount of money as it’s so much cheaper to rent a camping spot rather than a hotel room. Not to mention the fact that it’s so much more like home than any sterile hotel room could ever be! I know who last slept in the bed and used the bathroom. I know where everything is and can be stored. The dogs seem to like it, too. It’s more like home for them as well since we spend time in it even when it’s parked in the front yard.
After Charlotte, it’s going to be Kingsport, TN. We’ll see you there!
