Where Have All The Bloggers Gone?

Candle birthday cakes.Gosh! With a title like this, I need to have Peter, Paul and Mary guest posting, don’t I? But no, we have no celebrities to write the post today. Just me.

Sorry.

At least it’s not going to be another bastardization of song lyrics… be happy — be VERY happy about that. What I can do to song lyrics…

I have a list of blogs that I drop cards on for EntreCard. Every so often I go through that list and delete blogs that haven’t updated in awhile or that have become stultifying.

That was one of the tasks I’ve been doing these past few days. It means that I haven’t drop as many cards, because I’m taking the time to make sure I haven’t bookmarked a post rather than the site itself (to my chagrin, I discovered that I had done that very thing on more than one occasion – see yesterday’s post title for the probable cause of this error). When you do that, it makes it appear that the blog owner isn’t writing new stuff when in fact he or she IS. My bad!

Anyway, in my culling process I’ve noticed several blogs (ok, ok THREE, but that’s several — isn’t the rule that more than two qualify for several status?) for which the last post was about the blogger celebrating their birthday. They chat happily about going to their birthday celebration or bemoan turning a certain number of years — you know – pretty typical birthday post stuff. Anyway, it’s now 2-4-6 months after the birthday date/celebration and no more posts!

It makes you wonder if you need to hire a Chicago accident attorney to watch your back if you’re a normaly prolific blogger and have a birthday coming up (thankfully mine is behind me for this year). I mean, what could have happened to these bloggers? Your choices are:

1) Something Awful
or
2) Something Wonderful

Maybe their rich uncle gave them a million for their birthday and now they have all they can do to manage their new found wealth. (please note that my rich uncles are all currently in the poorhouse)

Being the paranoid person that I am, option #1 seems to be floating through my brain. I’m seeing wrecked cars from drunk driving and heart attacks after gluttonous indulgence in birthday cake.

It’s more likely that nothing at all happened — neither the millions nor the demise — but just that the birthday brought a realization that there is more to life than blogging (and IMO, this would still fall under option 1) :-o

Alas for this pathetic soul, blogging is right at the top of my list….feel sorry for me if you will…better yet, send money to send me to blogging rehab.

yeah I wish there was a sign up the top of their blogs maybe that said they are not active! I like when hoomans and dogs post, instead of not post. And birthdays are kinda boring (unless it’s my gotcha day).

I’m here, and the Mum is still fixing up the rest of her blogs from the crash. And she wanted to thank you about the RSS idea because she didn’t know you could get old posts off that! She got them all, yay! Mine are very important!

  2. ê¿ê says:

@Tatum — yeah, they are pretty inconsiderate that way. Your mom is entirely welcome and the reason I knew that was because, you guessed it, I had to do it myself once. It seems that I wake up stupid pretty regularly.

I’m seeing folks drop off from my list too, and I’ve only been ECing for about a month.

    Welp! I’m here for ya!

    ;)

  4. Lyndi says:

You got me giggling on this one. Ooh, thanks for the Peter, Paul and Mary link. My Dad is always speaking about these guys, now I know what they look like. The old album covers my Dad has obviously shows a much younger version of the three.

  5. BadEvan says:

Well I think I have a pretty good reason, too. What’s funny is that I’m kinda waiting for my B-day to make my “I’m back” post. But I also noticed a ton of bloggers missing from my old drop list. I had to start over with it.

BTW, Lyndi your dad is always speaking about Peter, Paul and Mary? You don’t get in to them. I’m 27 and I do. “Puff the Magic Dragon”. How can you not be all over that?

  6. ê¿ê says:

@Monica — Some people are on vacation and I got that with no problem. My list is always pretty fluid as I probably have some form of adult ADD anyway.

@Lyndi — you’re more than welcome — yeah, like with me, they years have not been kind. But I’m sure they can still hold a tune. :P

@Bad Evan – You need to get something up soon — you have that shiny new theme and it needs new content!

I have run across a similar phenomenon on Entrecard blogs, lots of them just disappear or remove their widgets after a fairly short time. And lots of them have old posts and seem to have no intention of ever writing a new one. I can understand being busy and not posting everyday-but once in a while would seem to be a good idea.

    Hello

You give me a some thinking, I say i have “blog-dry”, when I don’t can write or do anything on my site…This blog-rehab…*LOL*…shall we create one…;-)

  9. More to life than blogging? How could that be?
