What’s on Your List for Young Readers?

Posted By ê¿ê on December 24th, 2008

toddler libraryMy grandson turned 4 this week (of course I sent him a birthday card for 3 and got royally razzed about losing an entire year) and he’s just starting to read. Since my son and I both are avid readers, I predict that little R will be also.

Of course he doesn’t actually READ just yet, but he does know his letters and recognizes a few words, so it won’t be long.

I think he has a lot of the Dr. Seuss books (who can go wrong with those even after all these years?) but I would like to get R some others as well. I keep seeing these personalized books advertised and while the concept seems interesting, I’m finding the actual stories to be somewhat insipid at least in the ones I’ve actually looked through.

Have any of you bought these for your kids and if so, which ones and do you recommend them to other people?

I think R’s dad has already read the entire Harry Potter series to him, so I expect him to enjoy fantasy and science fiction which were two genres I especially enjoyed myself growing up as did Dad (thanks to my introducing them to him).

Are there any other series of books you would recommend for a 4 year old? I’m very interested in hearing your recommendations!

Thanks!

  2. The Little Critter books! I…I mean, my kids loved then when they were little. So much so, that I’ve saved every single one we ever had…and we had every single one.
