Come my friend let’s sit awhile
We’ll share a joke; We’ll share a smile
And before our visit is marked through
We’ll share what’s new with me; what’s new with you.
What’s For Supper?
I don’t know about your relationships but at my house, this is the daily twenty-four-thousand-dollar question.
Since there’s only the two humans in the house, food has become a real fighting point. We fight over who gets to NOT choose what we’re eating for supper (or dinner depending upon what part of the country you’re from — or even what country your from never mind the PART of it). Anyway, it’s the evening meal I’m discussing now, not some high-falutin’ sit-down twenty course deal. Just a 3 courser thanks!
Now both of us are fairly easy to please food-wise. If it doesn’t moo, cluck or oink back at us, it’s pretty much edible. Except that Ken will NOT eat liver in any way shape or form including in one of the Mexican recipes I tried once — as a matter of fact, he’s so adamant about NOT eating liver, that particular dish was hurled against the wall and that’s the one and only time I can remember seeing him lose his temper in the 26 years we’ve been in cohabitation.
The dogs now, they LOVE liver and I fix it for them quite often. I ENJOY liver and will order it when we go out to eat and it’s available, but I DON’T cook it for OUR dinner. Nope I’m a pretty smart cookie and that event is burned into my brain, so it won’t be repeated EVER. (well unless he develops Alzheimer’s at some point and then I’ll exact my revenge for refusing my liver dishes all these years — not that I’m hoping he gets Alzheimer’s you understand — I’m just sayin’ IF – he’s gonna be eatin’ some liver for sure)
One other point about dinner is that it HAS to have meat in it. It can be a 3 course meal or a casserole — heck he’ll even eat quiche
, but it HAS TO HAVE MEAT IN IT. Ken’s no vegetarian. He likes vegetables well enough, but doesn’t want an entire meal of them, so it’s a good thing that I’m not a vegetarian. Now, I, on the other hand, could be happy eating an all vegetable dinner upon occasion. The birds and I could just chow down on a bowlful of greens with or without turnips or fruit and cheese or a nice green salad. If I tried that, Ken would grumble. A lot. Loudly.
For the past month or so, I’ve wanted some Chinese food. The problem with that is that there are no Chinese restaurants that have what I consider to be GOOD Chinese food close by. So, I have to wait until a weekend night to go to a Chinese restaurant and I’ve been waiting and waiting and WAITING. Every weekend something seems to come up. Last weekend it was Butterfly getting lost. The weekend before it was Delilah needing to go to the emergency vet.
I’m not holding out for this weekend either. I just know that if I do plan to go somewhere that SOMETHING will happen and given the last couple of SOMETHINGS, I guess living without GOOD Chinese food is do-able.
So, what are your dinner plans? I know I’m going to need some ideas for tonight….

In my household things are a little different. My hubby enjoys chinese food but I do not. I think I am a bit better off than you in that my other half will eat anything I put in front of him. He does however eat a lot and I just have to make sure he gets enough of whatever it might be that I have prepared.
The best thing is that I only have to cook during the week. On weekends Charles (the hubby) takes over the kitchen. He cooks beautiful meals but he does make a terrible mess, which I normally have to clean up.
Thanks for sharing a nice story.

@Lyndi — while Ken CAN cook, he chooses to only do so when he’s the only one eating (i.e. I’m not home, therefore if he doesn’t cook, he doesn’t eat). He doesn’t clean the kitchen either. Once upon a time, we had an arrangement whereby if I cooked, he cleaned up the kitchen, but that went by the wayside some years ago and nothing I’ve done has gotten it reinstated. So, I am truly cook, cleaner and bottle washer
