I left Thursday for Valdosta, GA and the first of 6 shows located in various parts of the South. The goal is to finish the requirements for an AKC championship on two of my Whippets, Butterfly and Tigger specifically. Butterfly needs one final point while Tigger needs two. Should be a piece of cake, right?

WRONG

Tigger has gone Reserve to a puppy two of the last 3 days while Butterfly has gone reserve one day although she’s won her class all 3 days.

We’ll hope for the best the next couple of days as it’s single points in both sexes for the balance of the circuit.

I asked my friend Lee to come along with me. Lee doesn’t show dogs, although she loves them. It’s been nice having her company. She has a lot of funny stories to tell and we get along pretty well. She’s been helping me by holding dogs at ringside and reading maps.

Right now both dogs are sound asleep on the motel bed as I type this post. We’re all tired and I’m thinking seriously about lying down for a nap although that’s not usually my nature. I’m a bit surprised that they aren’t campaigning for their supper as it’s after 4 and they usually start begging to be fed around then. Lee took them on a jog around the complex a bit ago, so perhaps that’s why they aren’t whining for dinner.

I also started back to college Friday. I am trying to complete my BS in Computer Science. I’m a little intimidated by the whole concept, but since this is a life-long dream, I feel like it’s time. That will probably mean my postings will be a bit irregular as I get accustomed to the demands of schoolwork and maintaining all the other things I do.

I hope to be posting soon that there are two new Champions at Kemar’s. Y’all keep your fingers crossed for us OK?

************************NEW CHAMPION*************NEW CHAMPION***************************

Kemar’s Song of the South aka Butterfly completed the requirements for AKC Championship 2/23/2009 at the Southeast Alabama Kennel Club Dog Show and all points awarded were from the bred-by-exhibitor class. This means she’ll get an invitation to the Eukanuba Invitational as well as a nice bronze medallion :P .  Of course she immediately exercised her new status by refusing to stand posed for the photographer to take her “NEW CHAMPION” photo :(

Tigger also earned a point towards his championship yesterday by going Best of Breed. He now needs one single point to complete his title bid.

************************NEW CHAMPION*************NEW CHAMPION***************************

Ableaim Kallikrates aka Tigger earned his final point required for AKC Championship 2/24/2009 at the Greater Panama City Kennel Club show under Jon Cole and is the 8th of his litter to do so making his dam the first ever Whippet to earn her ROMX from one single litter. We congratulate Gail and Jenny Boyd on having the foresight to breed this phenomenal litter and wish Tigger’s littermates the very best in all their enterprises.
