I’ve come to the realization that I’m spending way too much time on this computer.
I spend hours a day dropping entrecards on sites.
I spend hours a day writing SQL code or HTML code or CSS code or whatever code.
I do my banking on line, I pay my auto insurance online, I get my recipes for dinner online, I buy tickets for shows online. I buy my clothes online. If my grocery store did that order online and deliver thing like some of them do in the big cities — I would do that. I would SO do that!
It seems that the only thing I go to the store for are gasoline and dog food.
That’s pathetic!
Carol asked me this morning what was I doing online so early.
Mind you this was at 8:15 am.
I had already been up four hours. FOUR HOURS and all of them spent on the computer doing WHAT pray tell? I don’t know. I can’t remember. I can tell you what it wasn’t.
It wasn’t looking at porn. I have nothing against porn (unless it’s thrust upon me unexpectedly as I’m dropping Entrecards and stuff — then I don’t like it ’cause I just have to be in the mood for it, yannow?), but all the good stuff is on members only sites that you have to pay for and then how do I explain that stuff on my computer when Ken borrows it for something? It’s also a bit embarrassing to ask him for gas money because I spent my last $10 on a Big John video.
It wasn’t even doing something constructive like revamping my website. I haven’t touched it in like two years now. The dogs on the Available page are nearly 4 years old and not going anywhere, so quit asking.
I wasn’t playing online games either. I like playing games, but that’s not what I was doing for 4 hours this morning.
I wasn’t writing anonymous posts on anybody’s blog. I like the world to know where I’ve been. That’s why I use my little siggy thing everywhere and the eyespi name for EVERYTHING. Even when it’s a semi-work related activity I find myself using eyespi. I ought to be famous or something.
And come to think of it, I had TWO computers fired up and running this morning. Of course one of them I KNOW what I was doing on ’cause that’s the work laptop and I was running my usual morning reports and getting caught up on stuff from yesterday. I spent yesterday in a class on Sharepoint, so there’s stuff I got behind on.
Oh! I remember now! I was uploading all those photos that I lost on Travelin’ Show. I got the brainstorm to query my database to get all the names and folders they were in and downloaded that to an excel spreadsheet. so now I’m just pulling in all the missing photos after recreating the folders they were in and other than having to redo a path or two on the posts (’cause I used Live Writer on a bunch of those posts, and it renames the files as it uploads them to the server). It’s not FAST exactly, but it’s faster than uploading them one at a time for each post that’s missing it’s photo.
WHEW! I’m glad I got that sorted out. I wouldn’t want anyone to think I’m a slacker!
I still spend too darned much time on this computer!
Don’t you agree?

Well I am in the same boat as you but add playing Scrabble online in the form of Wordscraper on Facebook and you have a total junkie!
Thanks for entering my contest and good luck!
i do agreee. i completely agree!
as i do the same, too. but only though if my toddler won’t mind. hehe… which is not most of the time.
I think we all need to think of maybe spending less time online. I do not mind if you cut back on your computer time but please keep these witty articles coming.
I know the feeling at the end of the day I often wonder what in the world did I do on line??? It is often hard to say, besides dropping cards, I do…stuff!
Blessings!
i sure do spend a lot of time on this computer. i kind of love it…i guess it’s addicting. i’m about to get off in about 1/2 hour and go do something else.
i need to get on a schedule again. it’s hard
I’m the same way – news, online banking, eBay, oh, let me search for that – I can find it on the net, Entrecard, and so on and so forth … yikes!
In the beginning, I spent way too much time online. But now that I have my blog like I want it, and am a bit more web savvy, I’ve managed to be more efficient.
Maybe I’ll go read a book now…
I almost spent 24/7 in my desktop, aside from the responsibility as a blogger I’ll do some small stuff of inventory and accounting. I felt guilty because sometimes i’ve overlook other chores inside my apartment:( I tried to detached myself even just few hours but i kept on thinking many things on the net. I think we all need to lessen our time in the net for health sake because right now I have a bit problem with my eyes:(
Have a wonderful weekend!:)
So do I, sadly. Still I consider it a big step up from the television set!
So, what happened to that whole line of computers-are-going-to-save-us-so-much-time line of bull caca they handed us waaaaaaaay back then?
U are absolutely right. I’ve spent the same amount of time doing the same stuff. Thank god I have someone that knows me. I don’t and cant stop until I had enough.
There will be that time. Just not now. hehe.
Have a nice day friend.
ehh …. I spend way too much time on my computer too. I like it though, it’s like my peace away from reality time
Oh come on Margaret, broaden your horizons… buy a bigger monitor!
LOL: I am a “computer sticker” – always need to be online reading blog updates, dropping EC cards, uploading photos and checking email and whatever. I am a “computer sticker”. But do take care, you wouldn’t want to get sore on the neck on become sick.
Sadly. 99% of the things I do are revolved around the computer. I weened myself off it for a while and then got a new one with a 19 in. monitor. I haven’t been the same since.
True that blogging or other internet activity is a step up from television. Too many worthless programs on these days. When I was a “heavy” tv watcher, it was programs like Leave it to Beaver and My Three Sons that had a moral teaching involved.
