While I’m looking forward to having a long weekend, I’m not exactly looking forward to doing this long list of chores that need to be done. I suppose I should be thankful that I have three days instead of only two to get them done, but I don’t really have three days as we have to go pick up Tigger Monday – that’s the 10 hour round trip to Raleigh again.
First our weather was so dry that the dust from the dirt driveway coated everything with a fine grit. I wipe down the tables every day, but by the time I get home from work in the evening, they are coated again. Now it’s rained, but that just means mud is tracked in, so I still have DIRT.
And the dogs are shedding like MAD! That’s making the dust bunnies procreate like nobody’s business. I ripped up the carpeting a few months ago — well it was not the nicest carpet in the world in the first place and by the time the dogs had walked over it with muddy feet and dragged in their toys, bones and no-we-don’t-want-to-go-there, well it looked more like home theater carpet bleah! –anyway, the tile is much easier to keep clean, but does nothing to discourage dust bunnies from gathering under the end tables in droves.
Add the seed hulls from the birds and yes, I have a messy house!
I suppose I should now say that I’m grateful it’s not a 3,000 square foot mansion….OK, the jury is out on that one.
I’m counting on Ken to mow the yard Saturday — if he doesn’t, you aren’t going to be able to FIND the house, much less critique how clean/dirty it is.
At least he finally bought batteries for the automatic shower cleaner thingy. Which doesn’t actually CLEAN the shower, but makes it where it’s not quite as hard to clean if that makes any sense whatsoever. Of course, it does no good to HAVE the batteries for the automatic shower cleaner thingy if you don’t put them IN IT.
It’s on the to-do list, I SWEAR!

is that the best photo you could get for dust bunnies? Heck, snap a few pics at my house!!! 4 cats, 3 dogs, and a very lazy me… and oh yeah… my house is kinda hard to see from the road through the tall grass too!
I gave up on carpeting after my 1st beagle used it as a potty training pad 14 years ago! And though I have a gazillion frighteningly large man eating dust bunnies, um, more like and invading army of them, It’s still much easier to get out the broom and sweep than it is to deal with the other kinds of messes on carpeting. Plus on rainy days, you just let the mud dry on the floor and it sweeps up really nice.
I only allow people who “understand” visit me. The last thing I need is some Suzy Homemaker critiquing my home. I’m the one who has to eat and sleep here, if you don’t like it, there’s the broom – I’ll watch.
Cleaning has been on my to do list since forever, too. I hope to make a tiny dent during my 3 days off. I gotta make room for the new fitness equipment that arrived this week. Whoohoo!
@paris — no I could have used a photo of my very own dust bunnies, but that might have made people lose their dinner. I couldn’t have that you know!
We are in the process of looking for a new trailer and I’ve insisted that there be NO CARPETING ANYWHERE. My husband keeps whimpering that we should have some in the bedrooms, but I say NO! We can make do with throw rugs or area rugs (whatever they call them these days).
No one visits us but family and since they know I’m animal crazy, they look the other way or don’t come at all. One d-i-l hasn’t set foot in our house since the day we moved in 10 years ago this month. Her loss.
Making room for stuff is NOT cleaning — that’s reorganizing which is different.
