Mama called me yesterday.
She NEVER calls me unless it’s something really, really good or really, really bad.
I knew she had a doctor’s appointment earlier in the week, but we had talked after it and she didn’t say anything was wrong,
Thankfully it isn’t her health, just her health insurance — her medicare part d to be exact. It seems that it’s time to renew and she was wondering if she should check out any other companies.
My sisters and I have talked to her about this off and on for the last couple of months and I guess it sunk in that it’s wise to keep informed about what changes in coverage and availability have been made.
She had already done a bit of surfing and checking things out (which I verified as we talked on the phone). She had done a pretty good job of summarizing up the changes in her current provider and what was available and attractive from other providers. One of the deal breakers is they have to use the pharmacy she goes to as that pharmacy delivers. She doesn’t drive any more and there’s no cab service in town, so she either has to wait until the church bus is going in that direction or some other person in the apartment complex is going. That’s just a lot of hassle when this pharmacy delivers to your door.
So we pared the list down to 3 and she’s going to talk them over with the other two sisters –nothing like buying insurance by committee
