Come my friend let’s sit awhile
We’ll share a joke; We’ll share a smile
And before our visit is marked through
We’ll share what’s new with me; what’s new with you.

Makeover Plans Progressing

Ken and I went to Home Depot Sunday and purchased the paint, glaze and supplies I’ll be needing to do the bedroom with. I’m so excited that I’ll finally be making the bedroom a place we’ll enjoy retiring to! My friend Janet is going to come down to help me do the texturizing. She’s done some on her own walls, so has experience with the glaze and mixing the paints properly.

texture exampleI will be using the whisk broom effect to make the walls look like they are covered in fabric (at least one of them). I think I’ll use the single direction rather than both horizontal and vertical as the room has a low ceiling. By using just vertical striping, that should lift the ceiling somewhat. The colors I’ve chosen are greener than these examples are, but about the depth of the shade of the dark color on the bottom swatch and the light shade is about the depth of color on the lighter shade of the top swatch.

color chipI’m debating between doing a leather finish in the hallway using the middle shade of grey in this swatch or doing what’s called a Venetian faux in these same shades of gray. With the chair rail I plan on installing that has a leaf pattern carved into the wood done in a distressed look, I think it will not only lighten up the hallway, but give it some interest as well.

My office will be the last room to do as I have a lot of logistics involved in preparing it. For one thing, not only do I have this humongous L-shaped desk that will have to be taken apart to get out of the room, I also have a 5′ long, 6′ high bird cage in there that will have to come out until the paint is completely dry. The birds cannot be exposed to paint fumes at all. So, it may be the spring before that room can be done.

I’m just so excited to actually even be this far along the the transformation of our “crib” — I mean, we have the crib bedding and now the rest of it is coming together quite nicely!

It sounds as if you are going to have a busy Christmas. Your ideas sound just great. Please share some pics with us when you have finished the bedroom, I could do with some tips.

Great colours and the texturing ideas – our walls are just plain painted. And I noticed I made an error on my last comment: our kitchen in burnt orange with the black & white tiles. It gets the sun all day, winter and summer, and has a huge window for plenty of light.
