I have a new Whippet at our house. His name is Will and he’s a rescue.

His story is a sad one — he was purchased as a puppy to be a companion dog for an older whippet that died before Will was very much older than the 8 weeks he was purchased at. His owner found that an active puppy with no guidance was a handful and so found him another home This time with a college student off from school and with time on her hands to give the puppy.

However when school started back, she found her schedule was way too full for a puppy and so began to have problems with Will as he was left alone and loose in her apartment. He had unremitting diarrhea from either stress or food changes so she turned him over to her vet in exasperation. The vet clinic contacted Whippet Rescue and Placement and Ken met the vet tech who fostered him and brought him back to our house.

He’s posted on the WRAP website now and is available, but not to just the first one who comes along.

WRAP policy is that I must interview the prospective homes and they may feel that its a form of  healthy grilling before it’s all over with I also must either do or arrange to have done a home visit as we have had many people over the years lie to us about the facilities where they will keep the dog. So, for the sake of the dog, we visit the home and see just where the dog will live. It’s not an invasive inspection or anything like that, just a social visit.

If you’re not local to South Carolina, please understand that WRAP will not allow me to ship Will. I also must have an Adoption Application on file for you before I can truly begin the screening process. This form is available on the WRAP website and can be emailed or snail-mailed to me.

Will is a cute guy who will make a great pet. He’s very friendly and gets along well with other dogs and some small animals. He is a little too interested in my birds for my comfort, so gets watched carefully when he’s in the room with one of them. I think he would make a wonderful therapy dog as he is very friendly, rides well in the car and is just overall a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. He loves kids and has some basic obedience commands although he’s not great about obeying them promptly. When he first came here, he pulled on his leash like a sled dog, but has learned to temper that somewhat. He still has a ways to go, but he’s willing to learn. He was very skinny and still had diarrhea but that’s now all in the past. He’s up to date on his shots and tested negative for heartworms and internal parasites.

My goal is to find a forever home for Will where he can give and receive the huge amount of love he has in his little body for the rest of his days.
