Crazy Weather!

We’ve experienced a very mild winter to date, but Sunday saw us with some wild and wicked changes!

The day started off in the 40′s which is very reasonable for March and raining which we need the water badly after the last two years of drought. Around 2p.m. we started seeing b-b sized hail come down and thunder. The wind picked up to gale force and then died down after raging for about an hour.

Then the snow started falling. Big, fat, wet flakes of it.

snow laden branchesSoon the trees, bushes and grass were covered and it piled up to about 6″. It’s the first significant snowfall we’ve received in several years.

These branches were piled even deeper in snow when the top of the tree broke and fell across our back fence. Ken and I will have to go out later today to get them removed and get the fence back up.

We did lose power during the night for about 3 hours, but the power company had us back up by around 2:00 am. As rural as we are, that’s a pretty good response! Especially since we didn’t call the power company to tell them ours was out.

Ken’s work has canceled the day, but I’ll have to at least work from home if I don’t actually drive in. I’m supposed to have a conference call around 10:00 this morning which I can also do from home.

I see from the extended forecast that we’ll be back up into the 70′s by next weekend.

At least that will get the heat turned off in the house. We heat with electricity and one of the biggest drawbacks to that is how dry it makes everything! My skin looks like alligator skin and despite frequent coatings of lip gloss, my lips are cracked and not very kissable looking. :(

I won’t be sad that spring is just around the corner.

I hope your Sunday was more moderate at least weather-wise!
