Come my friend let’s sit awhile
We’ll share a joke; We’ll share a smile
And before our visit is marked through
We’ll share what’s new with me; what’s new with you.

Butterfly’s Caterpillars

Posted By ê¿ê on September 3rd, 2009

Some of you know our Ch Kemar’s Song of the South otherwise known as Butterfly.

She’s a Whippet who has been my baby since she was born nearly 5 years ago.

We wanted to wait to breed her until she finished her championship and had passed all her health testing. Those moons finally juxtaposed earlier this year, so then it was a matter of choosing a suitable mate and waiting for her to come into season.

It was much easier to choose the mate than it was to wait for nature to take her course, but at long last THOSE two moons also came full. She was sent to Atlanta to meet her fellow back in June (the month of weddings!) and their union was consummated in style.

This past Monday (8/31/2009), she presented us with 5 gorgeous babies which her adoring public christened caterpillars :)

All have tentative names that are types of butterflies – that just seemed to be a great theme to work with and I was able to find names that are evocative of the puppies’ looks at this moment in time — some crass person actually said Whippet newborns look like slugs! If you can imagine!!!

At any rate whatever description you want to set to newborn Whippet puppies, here is their debut.

Kemar's American Lady
First up is Kemar’s American Lady — Vanessa is the only girl in the bunch. She looks a lot like her Mama and is already stealing hearts. She’s a quiet little girl who is perfectly happy to be snuggling in your arms.

Next is Kemar’s Metalmark aka Mark, a robust boy who is as bold as he is handsome.Kemar's Metalmark He’s going to turn heads as he gets older!

Kemar’s Baltimore Checkerspot (Bruiser) is another handsome maleKemar's Baltimore Checkerspot. He’s the largest of them all and gave his mama the hardest time being born.

Kemar’s Great Spangled Fritillary (Fritz) has the longest neck! I have a feeling he’ll be one of these elegant boys and with that wideKemar's Great Spangled Fritillary white collar, everyone will be admiring his shoulders!

Kemar's Bordered Patch

Pat will be known as Kemar’s Bordered Patch. Another boy with a neck that won’t quit and an attitude to match it. There’s no coddling this boy — he’s a down and dirty get the job done little man.

I sure hope you like our little caterpillars! I’m sure proud of them!

Congratulations!!! Looks like you have a family of Whippets to be proud of. Will you keep the only female or have a hard decision on which male to keep.

  2. Jude says:

They’re adorable and I’m sure they’ll all be champions like their Mom.
