DIGG Icon Added to Addtothis Plug-In
Posted By ê¿ê on July 2nd, 2008
I joined the DIGG community last November, but had not found a good solution to add this popular bookmarking site to my posts.
After struggling and struggling to add a DIGG icon to my posts so you could easily DIGG my posts, Sajithmr has made my issue go away with one easy-to-add plugin for Wordpress blogs!
The Addtothis plug-in makes the 4 most often submitted to social bookmarking services simple and easy to submit to. The icons are large-ish without being overpowering and the plug-in is so easy to install and use. If you also have the OneClickInstall plug-in, you are all set to go.
I did notice that although I re-uploaded the plugin, it didn’t overwrite the php code, so I had to copy and paste the addition for DIGG into the php file, but that was very easy to do. The re-upload did add the DIGG icon file with no problems and also overwrote the other icon images (which are slightly smaller than the ones that were in the first download of this plug-in in order to accomodate one more icon in the row), so I’m not real sure why it didn’t overwrite the php file as well.
If you’re already a fan of Addtothis, go download the new version and get DUGG!

I use ADDTOTHIS plugin as well. I really like the big icons. I updated but never saw the Digg button either. Maybe you should let the plugin author know how you fixed this since everyone would like that fix. I’m going see if deactivating it, then reactivating it works.

Well done, it looks impressive. We will make a PHP programmer out of you yet. I like the idea that you now have an additional button to remind visitors to subscribe to your feed as well.

Turnip — I know you use it — you’re the reason I have it
- as for deactivate/reactivate, I did try that, but the line of code for DIGG was just plain missing from the php file. I opened the zip file, copied it and pasted it into the file on my server.
Sailor — Actually, I kind of think the feed button is redundant and wouldn’t be unhappy if it went away. Guess I’m not one to push people to subscribe to my feed. I couldn’t tell you how many subscribers I have to be honest. As for this little act making me a PHP programmer — well, somehow I don’t think copy-and-paste is quite enough, but thanks for the encouragement anyway.

I wonder if readers actually have used these bookmarking buttons.. I’ve changed like so many times (from one plug-in to another)
You can hack the plug-in file to remove the feed if you want, Margaret ^^ (or you can send me the file if you don’t understand PHP and I can comment it out)

I can’t speak for other readers, Michael, but I use them! While I *could* use the stumble toolbar, digging and favoriting sites isn’t as easy to do, so the buttons definitely make it simpler. I also find it’s easier to log into the SN sites using these buttons for some reason.

“ShareThis” another social button widget for WordPress actually keeps stats for you on how many times people uses the buttons. I found most people used Stumble more than the rest.

Turnip — I think one of the main reasons people use Stumble is because they have made it so easy to use with the stumble tool bar. Website owners don’t have to add any coding to their site like they do with digg or some of the other, more obscure SN’s. I also think they like that thumbs up/thumbs down thing. I know I stumble far more posts than I digg. I hardly ever technorati favorite a site and although I have del.i.cious, I don’t think I’ve ever favorited one of those either.
I have the ShareThis plug in as well although it’s not activated as I wasn’t sure if you could run both ShareThis and AddToThis at the same time. Hope you can clarify that issue. Thanks!

Margaret, I updated the ADDtothis manually after deleting th original, and the digg button appeared! Only problem is I hated it. Yuckypoo. Come check out my new version.

I see that! I do like your icon much better than the one included with the pack — it’s the TRUE Digg icon.
Thanks for sharing that!
