WordPress Flash Uploader

I upgraded this and my other blogs to WordPress 2.7 back in December. I’ve been very happy with the new look and feel of WordPress 2.7 except for one thing.

I could not get the flash uploader to work, so had to click and click and click – and since I’ve updated the free graphics page about 7 times now since I first created it, that was getting to be pretty old!

I went in search of a way to just disable the flash uploader since it wasn’t working at all for me. I was having to use the browser uploader all the time anyway which meant another click just to get to it (my wrist is SORE!), and did find out how to do that (using an edit to one of the php files in admin  and a plug in), but I also found the fix for the flash uploader problem.

It’s a simple enough fix — had all 4 blogs fixed in about 5 minutes, so you can do it just as easily as I did if you’re experiencing the same problem.

It seems there was one file that the upgrader didn’t include for some reason that is needed in order to make the flash uploader work properly. If you downloaded WP2.7, just extract the files, go to wp-includes and find the js folder. Inside that, find the swf folder and in that, find the file named swfupload.swf and put that in the same file folder on your server — I used Filezilla to ftp it.

If you didn’t download WP2.7, you can download the file you need from me –>swfupload

Now go fix your blog! — and if you fixed it already, why didn’t you tell ME!?!?!?

I did not know that there was such a problem, now I know. I checked ny files and the relevant file is there. Maybe this is because I uploaded the files myself when I upgraded to 2.7 and did not use the upgrader. I never use the flash uploader but it is always nice to know these things. Someone else is sure to experience this same problem somewhere else. Thanks for the info.

Lyndi — yes, I’m sure that if I had not been lazy and used the upgrade feature that I would have all the correct files in place, but I did that once — ftp’ed the new version up and messed up my photo blog really bad (overwrote the wp-contents folder where all my uploaded pictures were — now I have big blank places on the blog as I haven’t gone back and uploaded all the missing photos yet)…Anyway the flash uploader allows you to upload multiple files with one click which, when you’re working on a page like the free graphics page is time saving as well as making it easier on your poor wrists! :P

Flash Uploader is very good, but it can be better if acept insert watermark to pics. I’m waiting it/

Catherine — yeah, I thought it was just me for a long time, then got frustrated and went on a hunt :)

Et — I just watermark my photos before I upload them — that is if I want them watermarked. Mostly I’m happy to share with others.
