Everybody knows about Twitter, right??? Ok, so I don’t need to tell you anything about it or what it does or what you’re supposed to do with it.
Well, I’m not the most prolific or astute twitter user in the world (I am avoiding the word twitterer as I don’t like the allusion to being an airhead that I somehow associate with it) . I admit, confess, and hereby notify you all of that fact.
I have, however, found the ultimate tool….the Oscar de la Renta of twitter tools. It’s classy, it’s beautiful and it helps me figure out the mess that is twitter!
That would be TweetDeck of course. Isn’t it gorgeous! Everything is so nicely organized! I am in love with it after just using it for 5 minutes!
I can easily see my last tweets, my followers last tweets (or is that people I’m following?? whatever!) I immediately see their replies and it updates automatically, so I’m not constantly refreshing the web page. I can also see any direct messages I’ve receive and sent. I can organize my followers into groups and be better able to keep track of conversations — something that is essentil if you’re following very many people who talk about a variety of subjects and who tweet amongst themselves. I use Twitter for quick SQL questions and answers, so it’s pretty important to keep all that inforamtion segregated.
It’s in beta testing now, so there may be issues with it for you. I had to install it twice on my vista machine before it would work, but it’s working now like a charm.
I think I’ve twittered more in the last 30 minutes than I have in my entire life
Check it out and let me know what you think… oh and if you’re not already following me, I’m eyespi20 (of course!)

I also have been using TweetDeck for a while now. It is great. The feature I like the most is the groups. This allows me to cut out some of the clutter on those days that I just want to concentrate on what those within the group are saying. I like the term ‘airhead’, must remember that.

I use TweetDeck too, it’s pretty darn nifty.

Lyndi — yeah — groups was what hooked me! Having all those followers and trying to remember on the fly what relationship they are to me was more than I wanted to think about.
Beth — I like the little sound it makes when there’s a new tweet
Looks like TweetDeck addresses many of my major complaints with Twitter. Which means TweetDeck is acting a little like Plurk.

I’ve been resisting Plurk — I don’t attend all the social networking sites I have signed up for now as it is. Having another profile out there to neglect just seems wrong.
Better “Twitterer” than “Tweeple”, which is the plural form of “person who uses Twitter” that seems to be sweeping through the Twitterverse.
Yuck, I just said “Twitterverse”.

Ugh! Tweeple sounds really demeaning! Don’t you wonder sometimes what someone from another planet would think about the evolution of our language?
Love, love, love TweetDeck! Still trying to figure out how I’m going to set up and organize groups. Once I get that down, I suspect I’ll love it more.
They just got some capital funding, so I think the upgrades are going to rock (multiple accounts, etc.). Looking forward to it!
Okay, I’m giving TweetDeck a try and must admit, it does help with some of my complaints about Twitter. I still have trouble finding a “conversation thread” when I’ve been away for more than a few hours and I only follow around 50-60 people. How do twitterers who follow hundreds of people keep up?
I will say I’ve tweeted more in the last 30 minutes than I have in the last week.

I use Tweetdeck now but sometimes i find it easier at the basic Twitter interface, God knows why.
Re: Groups – I find sometimes a leave several comment for people and they *never* come back = I think they are focusing on their groups and not reading the input of their outside-group-followers. This may add simplicity to the interface but it also begs the question, ‘why follow someone at all if your going to use a gizmo to ignore them?’
(Reading back, this isn’t a ‘poke’ at anyone, just a general observation.)

Another thing I’ve discovered I like about tweetdeck is the ability to easily re-tweet something I’ve found interesting.
Ken has pointed out the main reason I prefer Plurk over Twitter. If you have to be offline for any length of time, it’s near impossible to keep up a conversation string in Twitter. Plurk is the opposite. It’s actually meant for conversation. With Plurk I can easily resume a conversation from days ago without the frustration of having to scroll through pages and pages of innocuous strings of text.
