Server Migrations

Posted By ê¿ê on September 14th, 2009

Eyespi20 is hosted by Holdfire.net.

Holdfire has been a fair host. It’s inexpensive and has a fairly good up-time record.

They decided recently to retire the server my site was hosted on and put a new server in it’s place. That’s why you’ve been getting a “forbidden” page for the last 4 days — they were backing up the files on the server, then moving them to the new server.

I asked them why they couldn’t have used something less off-putting to new visitors and was given the reply that “this decision was made by our very highly trained server administrator, and as such our process has been well-thought out.”

So, dear readers  what is your opinion? Was this well thought out from the customer’s standpoint?

How would you react if it was your site that was so affected?

As always, I appreciate your considered opinions!

  1. Four days!! Of course that’s not right!
If they want to migrate you to a newer server, they should have set-up the new server first then migrate you over which only takes you a few hours most! (might even be minutes)

Yeah — I totally agree that there WAS another way that wouldn’t impact their customers so much. I wonder how many they have left now.

Truthfully, I thought I had made you mad and you had banned me from the family! You know, like Mom might have said “You are FORBIDDEN to go to that party!”
