Michael Aulia wrote a good article on blogging this week. In it he advances the simile that a good blogger has at least some of the aspects of a turtle. He or she has a goal, is persistent and determined.
He tells us that a successful blog has a goal and the successful blog owner checks periodically to see if he or she is still working towards that goal.
While I think I possess some of the attributes mentioned, I will confess to not having a very well defined goal with this blog.
I know already that I don’t write for any particular niche. I truly find it rather confining to even THINK about limiting what I write about here. And after this long of a time, you visitors may be somewhat disappointed if you dropped in only to find this blog was limited to just one topic.
I do have some blogs that are limited in scope — My Reading Nook is a book review blog and yes, I mostly review books I want to read and not ones I’m asked to read and Travelin’ Show is photos I’ve taken in my little world. Eyespi20, though is about seeing the world and writing my views of it. I mean, that’s kind of what the name is supposed to hint at — it’s a play on the child’s game of I Spy. So what if today I write a review on Dallas Texas hotels and tomorrow write about the Trans Siberian Orchestra. No, there’s no correlation between the two. But what was my goal??
In the one article, it would be to inform you about good hotels to stay in if you’re visiting Dallas, TX — a place I’ve been to a time or two, by the way. And the second article was to talk about what I consider to be a great band and maybe introduce you to their music which is just a little off the beaten track.
I occasionally write poems and will be sharing a short story of two as time goes on. Those are for pure entertainment value.
Still, there is no overriding goal to this blog.
Does that make me a failure at blogging??
Gee I don’t see me as a failure.
What do you think? What do you think comprises a great blog? Am I a failure as a blogger? Or am I just marching to the beat of my own drummer?
C’mon Michael — tell me what you think. I have my turtle shell on today

Don’t you perceive this as a “personal diary” blog? One where you can say what you feel, when you feel it? I don’t know if he considers a personal diary, a niche or not, but I do.

Hmmmmm…… no, not really a personal diary. I don’t write enough secrets in it
Considering the fact that both my sisters, my son, my MOTHER and husband all read it, I wouldn’t have many secrets if it were!
I perceive a diary to be a record of your most intimate thoughts and experiences. What do you perceive a diary to be?
Thank you for running CMF ad on my site! Have a great day!

You’re welcome!
Well honestly speaking, I’m not the type of man with a vision as well. My goals are mostly many short term goals although I do refine my goals every now and then..
- Getting $1 a day from AdSense…check..move on to $10 a day.
- My blog is ranked #11 in Australia. Next goal: to be on the top 10.
- Getting free gadgets for reviews.. check. Next goal: gadgets from big companies like Logitech, Apple, etc.
and so on
Back to the turtle illustration, it’s like having multiple destinations in one go but it only has 4 tiny slow legs
Not to mention that my blog’s niche is like a mixed bag too. Technology? Blogging? Jokes? Reviews? Gaming? Personal? So don’t think that your blog is a failure. If it is, then mine too!

Glad to know the goals can be post-to-post, Michael!
