This week has seen Facebook and FarmTown servers inundated with DOS attacks. This has made connection issues with both of them a real challenge.
One of the things FarmTown did was move their DNS to other servers in an attempt to throw off the DOS attacks. On the forum, they have included some moving tips to help you deal with the DNS changes.
FarmTown runs on servers provided by SoftLayer. Starting last night, some of their infrastructure servers (DNS) came under attack. This affected access to FarmTown servers.
Last night they solved the initial issue, but this morning it started happening again, affecting access to FarmTown servers.
While our hosting provider was trying to solve the issue at their end, we implemented a temporary fix by adding some new servers and re-routing the affected traffic to our new servers. Which is why FarmTown came back up earlier today.
However, due to the nature of the internet, our changes require some time to propagate to all ISPs, this is why some users were able to access FarmTown right after we deployed the fix, and some others just gained access within the last hour.
First off, they advise you to uninstall and re-install flash player. It may be getting corrupted with some of what is going on, but if that doesn’t work then installing a DNS on your own computer does help — at least that’s what helped me. You do this by creating a DNS account at OpenDNS and changing your own computer to have those values. Complete instructions are at the OpenDNS site, so I won’t repeat them here.
For nearly two days all I could get was a green screen which caused me to have FarmTown withdrawals. It was ugly…

So glad I don’t have to deal with that, but imagine lots of folks are having issues, given the number of people who live on FB etc. Hope things get resolved.
Asking friends for a favor, could you pop over to see what I’m talking about?
Please and thanks
Sandy

Sandy: I do so much more on FB than I do on any other social media site. It’s probably because my family is there along with my really good friends.
