They rolled out some new game enhancements to Farm Town last week.
Those enhancements have caused no end of difficulty for many people. Since I’ve gotten a few questions that relate to those changes I thought I would give you an update on the game, new enhancements and how to deal with some of the resulting problems.
If you haven’t yet visited the Farm Town forums, you really and truly should take the time to go. First off, there is a wealth of information there about the game, its development and there is a great group of people who are supportive and caring about those of us who love the game.
One of the forums is devoted to the future of Farm Town. It’s there that people voice their opinions on the things they would most like to see included in the game. It’s from these suggestions that the new enhancements got their start.
Many people wanted a way to hire people to do more than harvest crops — after all real farms hire people to do all manner of tasks. So now you can hire people to plow as well as to harvest. While you don’t earn as much money for plowing as you do for harvesting, you do earn experience points. Both the farmer and the hired hand earn an experience point for each plot that is plowed.Hiring someone to plow also saves the farmer some coins as to plow himself costs 20 coins. Hiring someone from the marketplace get’s you a 5 coin discount and hiring a neighbor gets you a 10 coin discount.
If you still insist on doing your own, though now you will see that you can plow more than one plot at a time. Your plow tool has several choices of plowing configurations to choose from.
When you go to plant your crops, you can now click ahead. You no longer have to wait for the incremental bar to complete before you can click on the next plot to plant seeds. This makes planting go a lot faster! That alone was one enhancement I am very grateful for.
There are some new crops and flowers. Raspberries that are ready in 2 hours, carrots, peppers, cotton, pineapple are all new crops that can be planted. Several new flowers are available to pretty up your farm.
With the enhancements have cropped up some problems. At first you couldn’t see your hired harvester harvesting. You kept having to refresh your screen in order to see the harvested plots and often the harvest didn’t show up right away in your storage. That seems to have been mostly corrected now although it took the game developers about 4 days to get that done. Some harvesters didn’t get the coins for the crops they harvested. I believe they showed up after they logged out and logged back in. I didn’t experience that one personally, so can’t say for sure. The missing crops from storage also showed up after logging out and back in — at least they did for me.
Something that is still going on is that you can’t see people in the market place. Or you can’t see your neighbors visiting your farm. There are a couple of things you can do to alleviate that. One is to click on the neighbor tab and go to a neighbor from there. That seems to be a temporary fix that lasts anywhere from a few hours to a few days. What seems to be a more permanent fix is to go to your account tab and change your gender. I had to do that and wore a green Mohawk for awhile. I’ve changed back to female, though and knock wood can still see people in the market and see my neighbors.
I hope this has helped you understand and learn how to cope with the problems that arose from the upgrade. I hope you’re still farming as the game just keeps getting better despite these few glitches. I can’t wait to see the next set of enhancements!
In the meantime, Happy Farming!
