A Healthier Me

I’ve joined a gym.
Yesterday was my one-week anniversary and I’m happy to say, it’s not been a chore at all to go or do. I might even stretch a bit and say it’s been fun!
I’m determined to lose some of the extra 100+ lbs I’m toting around as well as tone up some muscles that have gotten way too slack! It’s pretty sad when you have trouble hefting 40lb bags of dog food after doing it for the last 20 years on a pretty regular basis.
I’ll admit that it’s taken me awhile to finally get through to myself that this move was necessary. I had tried all kinds of diets and even some home exercise programs, but without anything to really motivate me and having very little in the way of self-control, it was a spotty thing at best.
I think I’ve tried everything there is to try for weight loss other than colon cleanse products. After the stuff I had to drknk for the colonoscopy, nothing that makes me crap uncontrollably is on any list I might have of possible methods to try. That means there’s no worry about me ever becoming bulimic as I don’t like throwing up any better than I like having projectile diarrhea. I want control of all body fluids at all times.
At any rate, I’ve already lost 4 lbs and am not so sore I can’t stand it. My routine includes at least 20-30 minutes on the treadmill since that’s what the orthopedist suggested along with another 20-30 minutes on various machines that help tone other parts of your body. I see people in there who have a specific machine rotation they go through, but I just try to do a lower body, then an upper body machine. My reps per exercise vary since some muscles are in better tone than others, so they can do more. I’m gradually increasing weight (tension) as well as increasing reps, but don’t want to go too fast with building up either as I know that if I get too sore, it will provide me with an easy excuse to skip a day. Then one day will build up into more and I’ll stop going. I know myself too well!
So give me a pat on the back and tell me “you go girl!” — I need all the encouragement I can get.
