Contest for Entrepreneurs

Posted By ê¿ê on March 29th, 2008

I was listening to NPR last night and Susan Sandrich posed the question:

"You’ve just completed your MBA and you have a sensational plan for a new business. You get  on an elevator and you find yourself standing next to Warren Buffet. You’ve got the time it takes to go from the lobby to the 30th floor to convince him to invest. What would you say?"

Next week at Rice University, students will be competing for hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of start-up money by pitching their concepts to judges comprised of venture capitalists and CEO’s I’m sure there will be some that would be franchise material. Wouldn’t it be cool to be an investor in something new and exciting like that?

Ali Abbassi was given the opportunity by Susan to give his pitch on national radio. His product is a medical device that will block pain signals for patients suffering from chronic pain. It’s hearing about people doing things like this that fire my imagination!

Oh to be 20 years younger and smart!  :)

Laundry is a Thankless Task

Posted By ê¿ê on March 29th, 2008

Laundry Plaque-726103 If you’ve been following this blog for long at all, you’ll be familiar with my frequent rants about laundry.

I know it’s necessary, but I hate doing it and think there should be an invention that eliminates the need for washing clothes period. I don’t want disposable clothing — that would be wasteful and certainly not what this planet needs, but it DOES need something that will help us conserve water, prevent pollution of our rivers and streams, yet give us clean clothes.

At least doing laundry can be a tankless task thanks to tankless water heaters. These nifty inventions heat water quickly and use less energy than conventional water heaters. They usually are mounted close to where you need hot water, so you might need several of them if your hot water needs are spread out in your home or if your requirements for hot water are extra large (a large family for example).

While tankless water heaters are one step towards a better environment, they don’t relieve me of  the laundry chores, so I’m only partly mollified. I still want someone to invent a closet that you can hang your clothes in, press a button and they come clean and pressed instantly.

That’s not too much to ask, is it??

Entrecards for RareReflections.com

Posted By ê¿ê on March 28th, 2008

Rae over at RareReflections.com asked me to work up an Entrecard design for her. I found an image she liked a lot, but as with PlayThere, the font is going to be the key. It has to be clear enough that when the card is reduced to 125×125 it doesn’t blur so badly you can’t read it. I’ve found a few fonts for her to review and we’ll see which one she likes.

Take a look at these and tell me which one would entice YOU to click on it.
