PPP Takes a ScobleHit

Posted By ê¿ê on November 27th, 2007

In an October post, Mr Scoble tells his readers that “PayPerPost is the company that Mike Arrington founder of TechCrunch (and me) love to hate.” However, I notice Mr. Scoble stooping to some seemingly paid advertising himself in the form of a Kindle and he quite forthrightly discloses that he’s getting paid by Amazon for each one of the units sold through his link.

So - I’m confused — if selling ads and links from your blog makes you evil and a Google-gamer, then what is Mr. Scoble?

Then in November 17th’s post, he clears it all up by telling us that if the disclosure is BY POST (not a site-wide one), anyone who sells ads and links is an angel. He then warns “Bloggers beware. If you just write great content and put the ads around the content like everyone else does you won’t be messing with Google and Google won’t mess with you.” But again, the Kimble links weren’t in an ad AROUND the content, they were IN A POST.

Well, I suppose he’s entitled to his opinion about PPP as is everyone.

This whole idea that Google is punishing anyone is a bit paranoid if you ask me. I think they reviewed their formula, discovered what they percieved to be a flaw in it (i.e. that it gave too much credence to sites that truly did not warrant it) and made the correction. That the affected sites were mostly downgraded and the downgrading took a bit of wind out of the sails of the site owners is what all the noise is really about. No one likes to be told they’re not as significant as they think they are. It’s just not in the genes.

Oh my HEAD!

Posted By ê¿ê on November 27th, 2007

I think I’ve told you about my friend who gets the occasional migraine. She’s one of the ones for whom they are triggered by a change in weather usually. Since ours has gone from cold to rainy, I’m sure she’s lying in a darkened room fighting one even as I type.

She has medication she can take. The problem with most migrane medications is that they tend to make you sleepy and all of them advise you not to drive or operate machinery while taking them. That’s hard for her to do since she must care for 3 horses — which entails hauling hay and grain to them, removing soiled stall bedding and so forth for which she uses her tractor. And then, of course, if she needs to take the horses anywhere, she must pull a horse trailer and that’s DEFINITELY heavy machinery!

I recently told her about an article I read touting botox injections for migrane prevention. I don’t know if she’s going to check into it though — she doesn’t like needles…..

Who’s to Blame for the Subprime Mortgage Mess?

Posted By ê¿ê on November 27th, 2007

Ok who is to blame for this mess? Is it the guy who had condos for sale? I don’t think so.

I think it’s more than likely the greedy, morally delinquent, soul sucking, power mad men (yes, I said MEN) who were in the position to sucker anybody and everybody who would listen to them.

I’m no financial guru — let’s just be totally honest here. While I took economics in college and accounting, I’m making 40K a year as a DBA. Not poverty level, but certainly no moneybags, either, yet *I* managed to not get drawn in.

Adjustable rate mortgages looked like a scam from the get-go. What honest, responsible banker would have EVER recommended such a gamble to people who were already on the financial edge? To me, that was just totally irresponsible!

And all the moaning and groaning, finger-pointing and blame-laying that’s going on! My GOD people! Get a grip! You screwed up — face it — now get ON WITH YOUR LIFE!

As for enacting legislation, putting in place oversight committees, etc., well guys, if you couldn’t reign your greed and keep yourselves honest then why should you expect those whom you shafted to foot the bill to make you walk the straight and narrow. I say, if you are one of the ones who made money from this mass shafting of the vulnerable then you should be banned from ever conducting business of this type again — so Mr. Banker — if you loaned money on adjustable rate mortgages, Mr. Broker, if you sold them then guys, you need to find another job — YOU’RE FIRED!

On my way to the forum

Posted By ê¿ê on November 27th, 2007

I stopped by fhq forumer today only to discover that it’s Forumer’s birthday and a whole lot of shakin’s goin on!

If you’ve never visited there, you should! Lots of things to talk about or create your own forum! It’s boss!

Of course, my love is the Graphics and Web Design forum — I’ve picked up some great tips there to use on my own websites! But there’s also forums for gaming, forums for buying and selling stuff.
