Scientists, psychologists and law enforcement are closing in on liars.

New methods of discovering people who lie or decieve are being studied, developed and implemented. From the lie detector to MRI imaging, science has long been consumed by finding ways to interpret the body’s response when a person tells a lie.

The lie detector measures body responses such as heart rate, sweat volume, blood pressure and respiration, but, as Bill Majeski a polygrapher tells us, the machine can only tell when someone is anxious.

New tests are incorporating the MRI machine to help discover lies. According to Daniel Langleben, a lie can be tracked from the decision by the person to lie via changes in a certain area of the brain. While this test is more accurate than the lie detector of the 20’s, it does require a willing subject — something a true criminal would not be.

Lastly, Mark Frank, a University of Buffalo psychologist is taking the recognition of certain facial expressions to a whole new height in reading a person’s thoughts. Mr. Frank teaches law enforcement personnel how to recognize facial “tics” and interpret the person’s thoughts at the moment it occurred. His work is helping officials search out terrorists and others.

So, liars beware — it’s better to tell the truth!

Never Get Busted Again!

Posted by ê¿ê under Women

A former narcotics officer in Texas has created and is selling a DVD that details to marijuana users how to avoid getting busted for possession of marijuana! And he’s on his way to becoming an millionaire! Only in America :P

Barry Cooper is quite explicit in his DVD with tips to avoid being pulled over by the police in the first place (such as avoiding bumper stickers that show you’re in college or a Vietnam Vet!), how to hide your stash so that drug dogs can’t find it or give false positives that confuse the handler.

Law enforcement officials are not happy with Mr. Cooper’s entrepreneurial spirit, but there’s nothing they can do about it. He’s within his rights to produce such a DVD, as well as to market and sell it.

His next DVD tells people how to not get raided.

Law enforcement is even less happy about that one citing a worry that officers will get injured because of it. Is that a real concern, or are they more concerned that more than the savvy drug dealer/user will “get away” with their crime?

How do I feel about this?? Well, I’m all for obeying the law. I also understand that being a police officer carries with it the potential to abuse power over people. It’s the human condition. So, while I don’t really want anyone to break the law (there are ways to overthrow laws that are unjust, unneccessary or wrong that don’t involve breaking them), I also can’t fault Mr. Cooper for sharing his insight with others.

Lighting Choices

Posted by ê¿ê under Women

I used to work for an electrical supply house and one of the things we supplied was lighting. While I admired many of the different vendors’ items, one vendor in particular always stood out to me and that was Murray Feiss.

The choices were varied and deep and the quality of the products was superb. I believe pricing was competitive, because we certainly had plenty of orders for those lights — especially their line of outdoor lighting fixtures. Those especially seemed to catch the eye and work well in the style homes that were being built.

I never had trouble getting what we ordered for our customers, either. Delivery was alway as promised and orders were shipped complete most of the time. If there was going to be a delay, they let us know right away. I know that if I were needing any light fixtures right now, Murray Feiss would be at the top of my list to purchase.

Eye of GodI received one of those pass-around-to-everyone-in-the-word emails this week that had photographs taken by the Hubbel telescope of far away galaxies and star systems. The photographs were amazing and breathtaking. It was hard to believe that some of them were truly of things man has never seen before.

So, I’m sitting here in awe over these photographs and all of a sudden, I wonder just what, from the Stratosphere Las Vegas, say, would look like and found this image on the internet Las Vegas from Space which is a little disappointing after the gorgeous ones from the Hubbel, but then I found THIS one which is much cooler, but still nowhere near as awe-inspiring as looking out into space. Las Vegas from space 2

What do you think??
